Motorola�Solutions�has been awarded a AUS$10�million contract to manage and support�network operations for Queensland�Gas’ liquefied natural gas project in southern Queensland, Australia.
“The five-year managed services contract will see Motorola Solutions manage and operate the communications network for the project’s main gas compression sites; the upstream control room in Chinchilla and, from 1�January 2015, the midstream plant on Curtis Island near Gladstone,” says Steven Crutchfield, MD for Motorola Solutions Australia and New Zealand.
Making the announcement at the Motorola Solutions’ Critical Communications World conference in Singapore, Crutchfield noted that the contract will help Queensland Gas realise safety, productivity and efficiency benefits by providing for service performance uptime guarantees, ensuring ratio services for operations and emergency response management remain uninterrupted.
“Motorola Solutions has been working with Queensland Gas on the deployment of the microwave and 33-site digital {DP2600 radio|{2|Two} way Radio|Walkie talkie} system since 2011. Late last year, the network was completed. Valued at $32�million, the network is now one of the largest terrestrial trunked {motorola DP2600 2 way radio|{2|Two} way Radio|Walkie talkie} (two-way trans-receiver) wireless networks in Australia,” explained Crutchfield.
Queensland Gas’ project manager Ian Hill stated that before the deal took place, the gas company had numerous network challenges on this particular site.
“Queensland Gas’ liquefied natural gas project is one of the Australia’s largest capital infrastructure projects, transporting gas through a 540km underground pipeline network where it will be liquefied for export by tanker,” said Hill. “The site is on a very remote location on Australia’s outskirts, with no planned roads or Internet access, meaning it was at times hard to access business applications such as e-mails, document management systems etc on the site.”
According to Crutchfield, the partnership will enable Queensland Gas achieve its priority of enabling a safer working environment for employees, as well as increase efficiency and productivity.
